Meet the Speakers

  • Jack Bowen

    Jack is the author of 4 books, including his latest (co-authored), Sport, Ethics, and Leadership (July, 2017). He spoke at TEDxStanford in 2017 on the topic of awe. Jack graduated from Stanford University with Honors in Human Biology and earned his Masters Degree in philosophy, graduating summa cum laude. While at Stanford, he was a 2-Time National Champion water polo goalie and the NCAA MVP and went on to become the alternate goalie of the 1996 Olympic Training Team. He has coached water polo at Menlo School for 17 years, has been honored with the Positive Coaching Alliance National Coaching Award, USA Water Polo's 2016 National High School Coach of the Year, and one of 13 2017 CIF Honor Coaches in the state.

  • Grant Shoults

    Grant Shoults is a retired American competitive swimmer who won the gold medal in the 400 meter and silver medal in the 200 meter freestyle at the 2015 FINA World Junior Swimming Championships in Singapore. Together with his teammates, he also holds the junior world record in the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay. Grant is also the former captain of the Stanford University Men’s Swim Team.

  • Bill Cole MS, MA

    Bill Cole is one of the world's leading mental game coaches who has been the mental game coach or sports psychology consultant with athletes or coaches of 25 world and national teams, 11 international and Olympic teams, 32 professional sports teams, associations or leagues, and of athletes who have won 40 world and national championships. Mr. Cole is the founder and President of the International Mental Game Coaching Association, the global leader in certification of mental game coaches.

  • Ashling Murphy

    Ashling is a Senior this year at Gunn High School in Palo Alto and has been an integral part of the GOAT Mentality Core Team. She has danced for 5 years and skated competitively for 12 years. This past year, she broke her ankle and subsequently endured surgery, screws, plates, and time away from her sport. Ashling will be sharing more about her journey with injury and athletics and how it has impacted her mental health.
